Wessex Racing Services
Wessex Racing Developments was founded in October 1975 to bring together the businesses of Bruce Bamber and Tony Scott. At this time Bruce had been developing the first of a series of space framed Minis and driving them in the emerging and popular sport of rallycross both in the UK and throughout Europe, whilst making a living as a freelance engineer and car builder. At the same time Tony was running a very successful engine building shop whilst also offering services such as cylinder head modification and dynamic balancing services to the motorsport community throughout the South of England. This was the foundation of the company that went on to become synonymous with not only big bore Mini engines up to 1500cc but also some of the most successful Ford BDA engines ever seen in rallycross in the 1980s and customers included Ronnie Douglas, Rod Chapman, and John Welch to name but a few but most famously went on to prepare engines for the two times European Rallycross Champion Martin Schanche, the latter sadly after Bruce had left the company to pursue other interests.
